Ashbourne / Paintings, wood carving, ceramics, photography
The warm and beautifully restored Haybarn at Beechenhill, an organic farm nestled on the south facing hill over Ilam, hosts six Peak District Artisans:
Photographer Michéla Griffith draws inspiration from the landscapes of the Dove & Manifold Valleys around her home. Increasingly she looks to show that the camera can be used as a creative tool as much as a paintbrush. She offers framed and mounted prints and cards
Mixed media artist Janet Mayled is inspired by colour and pattern of natural and manmade subject matter which comes from her training as a textile designer. Janet uses acrylics, watercolour and dye to create bold and vivid images; using other media such as papers, fabric to add depth and texture. Janet offers a range of paintings, prints, cards and cushions among other things.
Newfields Gallery’s stand displays Gail Keep and Roger Sutton’s work. Their ceramics and woodcarvings are inspired by the surrounding countryside. They design, make and sell their detailed relief ceramics, jewellery, wall plaques, boxes and intricate carved oak panels of trees and foliage.
Sue Prince, award winning British folk artist, tells stories of people and their places, nature, ways of life and work- it’s like folk music but in paint. She often covers those subjects which make us all human including protests, national celebrations and quirky events. She has original paintings, large and small, prints, cards and boxes on sale.
The paintings of artist Tim Rose are primarily concerned with the effects of light and atmosphere, whether his subject is a portrait or a Cathedral interior.
He paints or sketches on location, seeking to respond directly to what is before him in the appropriate media. He has painted in many of the great houses and gardens in Derbyshire including Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. He offers original paintings, prints and cards.
Following a degree in Graphic Design and studies in botanical painting water-colourist Vivien Wilson specialises in portraying a wide range of plant life. Flowers, trees, fruit and berries are the subjects of her fresh and attractive paintings. All are shown in accurate detail, as individual plant portraits or illustrations for commissioned projects. Vivien offers original paintings, prints and cards.
The artists undertake commissions and are delighted to encourage visitors to discover their inspiration and motivations.
The Artist’s Café offers a delicious range of homemade cakes, teas, coffee and soft drinks. Money raised will be donated to Wetton and Alstonefield First Responders.
