The Green Man Gallery

The Green Man is an independent art gallery and creative hub, managed and run by its artist members with the support of a team of community volunteers. The gallery began life as a temporary pop-up in November 2012 and has now developed into a vibrant arts centre with regularly changing exhibitions by members, guest artists and designer makers; a programme of workshops and classes, and live music, theatre and spoken word events at the weekend. The gallery’s current home is a Victorian hotel building with a fascinating history, situated behind the Buxton Museum and Art Gallery on Terrace Road. Since September 2014 we have been transforming its dilapidated rooms into a bright contemporary gallery and so far we have created exhibition and workshop spaces on three floors. The ground floor gallery in the former ballroom is completely accessible by wheelchair but regrettably the upper floors can only be reached by stairs. Ten artists will be exhibiting at The Green Man Gallery for Derbyshire Open Arts 2016 Doug Agnew – paintings and mixed media Dawn Featherstone – landscape paintings (oils); printmaking (monoprint, collagraph, linocut and etching) Mara Edwards – abstract paintings (oils ); pastel and charcoal drawings - www.mara-art.blogspot.co.uk Ilsa Elford – paintings (acrylics) combining folk art and fine art Fiona Jubb – felted textiles (2D and 3D); paintings and mixed media - www.fionajubb.co.uk Vicky Kenworthy – drawings (coloured pencil); paintings (acrylics and oils) - www.majestikart.com Penny Kill – jewellery and framed originals from pre-used and waste papers Val Muir – home decor items and scarves made from hand screen-printed fabrics; textile wall hangings - www.valmuirfabric.com Suzanne Pearson – paintings, printmaking (woodcut, collagraph) and mixed media Caroline Small – digital photography, specialising in macro photography of the natural world - www.mindfuleye.co.uk During the weekend the artists will be working and demonstrating in our Open Studio and there will be creative activities for visitors. We’ll be serving hot and cold drinks and delicious cake all day, and soup between 12pm and 2pm. Join us for a celebratory Preview Evening on Friday 27th May from 7pm to 9pm with refreshments and live music. The gallery has parking space for 10 cars.
