Ilkeston / Chinese Brush Painting in ink and water colour

Ron Brooks, a member of the Chinese Brush Painters Society UK, runs a group called Chinese Brush Painters of the Erewash Valley, as part of the South East Derbyshire Group. In 2016, the year of the Monkey, we shall celebrate the Chinese New Year with an exhibition at the Smoothie Bar Gallery, Bath St Ilkeston for the whole of February, in the week 8th to 13th. There will be FREE demonstrations and workshops with a small charge for materials, 10:00am till noon. We also have a stand at the N.E.C. Birmingham Arts and Crafts Show in March and November. We are a small friendly group who's intentions are to promote and foster traditional Chinese brush painting techniques which is one of the oldest continuos artistic traditions in the world. Chinese painters use a traditional brush dipped in black ink or colour on paper or silk. Subjects include flowers, birds, animals, mountains and rivers. The painter aims to capture the life and spirit of the subject, making it live though the brush of the painter and the eyes of the viewer. Chinese painting materials are readily available in the UK and are not expensive.
